Cocoa Tea or De te Kako
 

 

The Ingredients
​

 

1 cocoa stick
4 cups water
1/2 of a cinnamon stick
lime peel
anise
1/2 cup evaporated milk​
sugar to taste

Makes about 2 servings

The Method
​
1. Grate the cocoa stick and measure until you have 1/4 cup grated cocoa.

2. Place in a pot and add the anise, cinnamon and lime peel.

3. Add the water.

4. Place on the stove top and boil for 15 minutes.

5. Add the milk.

6. Remove from heat and strain.

7. Add sugar to taste.

As an additional​ step, the tea can be returned to the stove top at this point and flour added to thicken it.

Tip​

​

Cocoa tea prepared without the milk is often used by breatfeeding mothers to maintain and increase their volume of breastmilk.
