A Lucian Christmas

Its early Christmas morning and you can smell some aromas from mom's kitchen.  In fact your stomach woke up before you did just smelling mom's ham baking in the oven.  She prepared it with cloves and spices and baked it as she always does. Your plaited butter bread is waiting along with the pickles and mustard which are sure to make your Christmas ham sandwich delicious.  Man, you remember how good it was, thinking about the Christmas presents and Christmas ham!

But wait we missing the egg nog, someone need to start working on that! And take out the sorrel  and ginger beer from the fridge, we have to get some of that!

For lunch it was more ham, stew pork, ground provisions, red beans, shepherd's pie, and pumpkin pie, by the time you finish you stuffed and your belly really, really happy!

Our moms are absolute talents when it comes to cooking, they have always been creative and fun in the kitchen, and have never been shy about trying out new ideas and new ingredients.  Without them and their culinary skills growing up, Christmas would not be the same.

They would cook up a storm, like many St. Lucian households our Christmas was nothing without its food.

From the fruit cake to the sorrel, good food is a staple during this time of year.  Most families love to celebrate by baking hams and buying their local butter bread and of course the family favourite is plaited butter bread and ham.  Oh and don’t forget the milk punches and the pumpkin pie.   Christmas is nothing without our traditional food and or modern remixes as well.
